The Hon. Joseph D. Findley is a judge for the 8th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jared Polis on October 8, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Julie Kunce Field.
The 8th Judicial District encompasses Jackson County and Larimer County.
Prior to his appointment, Findley was a partner at Kaufman, Findley, & Smith, a law firm he joined in 2006. He specialized in estate planning, conservator, real estate, contract, landlord-tenant, and probate matters, supplementing his practice with service as a deputy public administrator (2008 to 2018) and the public administrator (2018 to 2021) for the Larimer County Public Administrator’s Office.
Findley earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1999. He later completed a J.D. at the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2005.
His memberships have included the Board of Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud. He is a recipient of the Sally Henze Memorial Award from the Larimer County Adult Protection Team (2012).
A resident of Loveland, Colorado, Findley and his wife have two children. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoys practicing Taekwondo, where he has obtained the rank of 1st Dan Black Belt.
