Hon. John S. Campbell (Ret.) was a judge for the Carroll County Court of Common Pleas (Probate and Juvenile Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench in November 2008. Campbell retired in 2020.
Prior to his election, he spent thirty-one years in private practice and was an acting judge for the Carroll County Municipal Court for twenty years. Campbell also spent four years working as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office and was a guardian for disabled residents and a guardian ad litem in child custody cases.
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron. Campbell went on to complete a J.D. at Stetson University College of law. He was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1977.
He served for twenty-eight years as a volunteer firefighter in Carrollton.
His other civic involvement included the Carroll County Hospice Advisory Board, the Carroll County Public Defender’s Board, the Carroll County Township Trustees Association, the Carroll County Farm Bureau, the Carroll County Ducks Unlimited (chairman), the Carrollton High School SADD Program (advisor), and the Carrollton Rotary (past president).
Campbell graduated from Northwest High School.
He was registered as a Democrat.
