Biography

The Hon. John P. Icenogle (Ret.) served as a judge for the 9th Judicial District Court of Nebraska. Icenogle was appointed to the bench in 1990. He retired on January 1, 2016.


The 9th Judicial District encompasses Buffalo County and Hall County.


Icenogle earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in 1971. He then completed a J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 1974.


After graduating from law school, Icenogle entered into private practice in Kearney. He worked in that capacity until 1976, at which time he became a judge for the 9th Judicial District County Court (formerly the 12th Judicial District).


His memberships have included the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Nebraska District Judges Association, and the Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association. He has also been involved with the Campus House Girl’s Group Home, and he has served on the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Community Corrections Council and the Governor’s Children’s Task Force.


He is a recipient of the Outstanding Judge Award from the Nebraska Supreme Court (2003), the Appreciation Award from the Foster Care Review Board (1985, 1995, 2003), and the Award of Appreciation from the Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association (1989).


Raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Icenogle attended Lincoln Southeast High School. He is an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Kearney.
