The Hon. John M. Morris is a judge for the Rockingham County Superior Court in the 17A Judicial District of the 4th Division in North Carolina. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022.
Prior to his election, Morris was the County Attorney for Rockingham County, a position to which he was named in 2018.
Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Methodist University (2001) and an M.B.A. from East Carolina University (2004). He spent the next several years working as a federal accountant at the Federal Highway Administration (2004 to 2006) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (2006 to 2007) before completing a J.D. at Elon University School of Law in 2010. As a law student, he was a Blackstone Legal Fellow, and he interned with the Committee on the Judiciary in the United States House of Representatives.
After graduating from law school, Morris began his legal career as a tax associate at KPMG in Greensboro. He worked in that capacity until 2012, at which time he entered into private practice at Morris Law in Madison.
Morris was raised in eastern North Carolina, where he hails from a family of pastors and professors.
He is registered as a Republican.
