Hon. John M. Madonia is a circuit judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois in Sangamon County. He was elected to the position in 2014.
The 7th Judicial Circuit Court includes Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Morgan, Sangamon, and Scott Counties.
During his judicial tenure, Madonia has presided as Chief Judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit Court. He first joined the bench as an associate judge of the court in 2010.
Prior to beginning his judicial career, Madonia was in private practice for eight years (2002 to 2010). Before that, he served as an assistant state’s attorney with the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office (1997 to 2002) and was a part-time public defender.
Madonia received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1994. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Illinois College of Law in 1997.
He was admitted to practice in Illinois (1997) and the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois (1997).
Madonia attended Sacred Heart-Griffin High School.
