Hon. John F. McAdams is a circuit judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois in Kendall County. He was appointed to the position by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Melissa S. Barnhart (Ret.).
The 23rd Judicial Circuit Court includes DeKalb and Kendall Counties.
McAdams began his judicial career as an associate judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court in 2011 prior to the creation of the 23rd Judicial Circuit Court the following year. He continued presiding as an associate judge until his appointment in 2022.
Before joining the bench, McCann was in private practice at McAdams & McAdams, PC for over ten years (2000 to 2011) and also served as a part-time public defender in Kendall County (2000 to 2006). His areas of practice included criminal and family law.
In addition, he has taught as an adjunct professor at Northern Illinois University College of Law since 2014.
McCann received a B.A. in political science and government from Eastern Illinois University. He went on to complete a J.D. at Northern Illinois University College of Law.
