The Hon. John E. Nunn, III is an associate judge for the Kent County District Court in Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O'Malley on January 16, 2009, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Floyd L. Parks.
Prior to his appointment, Nunn was an assistant public defender for the Office of the Public Defender in Kent County and Queen Anne’s County (1992 to 2008). Before that, he was a partner at Mowell, Nunn & Wadkovsky (1989 to 1992).
Nunn earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Washington College in 1980. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1983.
After graduating from law school, Nunn began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. George B. Raisin, Jr. of the Kent County Circuit Court. He served in that capacity until 1987, at which time he became counsel to the Town of Betterton.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association and the Kent County Bar Association. He sat on the Chemical Demilitarization Citizens Advisory Commission and the Board of Directors of Mid-Shore Pro Bono, Inc. He has also been involved with the Kent County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council, the DeWeese Carter Center Advisory Board, and the Kent County Community Center Authority.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, Nunn was raised in Catonsville and attended Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore. He is a Senior Warden of Christ Church at IU.
