The Hon. Jodie Capshaw-Asel (Ret.) served as a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri. Capshaw-Asel was elected to the bench on November 7, 2006. She retired on June 8, 2020.
The 13th Judicial Circuit is composed of Boone County and Callaway County.
Prior to her election, Capshaw-Asel was an associate judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit, a position to which she was appointed by former Governor John Ashcroft in 1991. Before that, she spent time as an attorney in private practice (1981 to 1991).
Capshaw-Asel earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1972. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1975.
After graduating from law school, Capshaw-Asel began her legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office. She served in that capacity until 1979, at which time she became an assistant public defender.
Her memberships have included the Executive Council of the Judicial Conference, the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges (president), and the Boone County Bar Association (president). She has also been involved with the Missouri Supreme Court Judicial Education Committee (vice chair), Fine Collection Committee, Family Law Committee, Case Management Committee, and Legislative Committee.
Capshaw-Asel was raised in Chaffee, Missouri.
She is registered as a Republican.
