The Hon. Jill H. Konviser is an acting justice for the Kings County Supreme Court in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. She was appointed to the bench by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks in 2018.
Konviser began her judicial career as a judge for the New York State Court of Claims, a position to which she was named by former Governor George Pataki in 2005. She was subsequently designated to sit as an acting justice for the Kings County Supreme Court (2005 to 2009) and the New York County Supreme Court (2009 to 2017).
Prior to her appointment, Konviser sat as the Inspector General for the State of New York. Before that, she spent time as senior assistant counsel to the Governor of the State of New York (1997 to 2002) and deputy inspector general and general counsel to the Inspector General’s Office of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (1997).
She earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She then completed a J.D. at Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, in 1990. As a law student, she received the Lewis F. Powell Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, the Texas Young Lawyers Award for Outstanding Lawyering Skills, and the National Tournament of Champions Award for Advanced Advocacy.
She is licensed to practice in New York (1990) and New Jersey (1990).
After graduating from law school, Konviser began her legal career as an assistant district attorney for the New York County District Attorney’s Office. She served in that capacity for five years, eventually leaving to become a consultant in the Manhattan office of KPMG’s Forensic and Investigative Services Practice.
Her memberships have included the Advisory Committee on Criminal Law and Procedure. She has also served on the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct.
An avid teacher, Konviser has lectured for the New York State Judicial Institute, the New York State Court of Claims, the New York State Judicial Conduct Commission, the New York City Police Department, the New York State Prosecutors Training Institute, and the New York State Catholic Conference. She has also taught as an ITAP instructor and adjunct professor at Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and she was an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law.
She is a recipient of the Outstanding Woman of the Bar Award from the New York County Lawyers Association (2004), the New York State District Attorney’s Legislative Award (2003), the Downstate Coalition for Crime Victims Award (2002), and the Empire State Pride Agenda Award (2001).
