Hon. Jeffrey L.Foster is a judge for the Alcovy Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. He was elected to the bench in 2020.
The Alcovy Judicial Circuit is comprised of Newton and Walton Counties.
At the time of his election, he was the managing partner at Foster, Hanks & Ballard, LLC, a Monroe firm he co-founded in 2003. During his time in private practice, Foster handled criminal defense cases and complex estate matters as well as litigated many civil matters throughout the state and federal courts of Georgia and appellate courts.
In addition to his private practice, Foster also presided as Chief Judge of the Social Circle Municipal Court (2017 to 2020), an associate magistrate judge of the Walton County Magistrate Court (2004 to 2012), and a municipal judge for the Monroe Municipal Court.
He was also a former solicitor for the Cities of Loganville and Social Circle.
Foster received a B.S. in economics from the University of Delaware in 1989. He then spent one year as an inventory and pricing analyst at Mobile Oil before completing a J.D. at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1993.
Foster was admitted to practice in Georgia (1994), Pennsylvania (1995) the Court of Appeals of Georgia (1995), the Supreme Court of Georgia (1998), the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (1998), and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia (1998).
After graduating from law school, he became a judicial law clerk for the Hon John M. Ott with the Alcovy Judicial Circuit Superior Court, remaining in that position until 1995. Then, upon completing his clerkship, Foster joined the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, where he worked as a chief assistant district attorney for eight years (1995 to 2003).
He has served as Director of Community Outreach for The Ministry Village, an accountability-based program that provides assistance, education, and counseling to individuals struggling with chronic housing instability and underemployment. Foster also provided pro bono legal assistance to families in crisis through the Faith & Justice Program.
As an active foster care provider, he is credited with incorporating and serving as a member of the Board of Directors for Uniting Hope for Children. He and his wife, Kresta Greer Foster, have four children and three adopted children.
