The Hon. Jeffery Foster is a judge for the Pitt County Superior Court in the 3A Judicial District of the 1st Division in North Carolina. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pat McCrory in 2016, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. W. Russell Duke, Jr.
Prior to his appointment, Foster operated his own private practice, The Foster Law Firm, since 1993. Before that, he was an attorney at Dixon, Doub & Connors (1991 to 1993). Foster also taught as an adjunct professor at East Carolina University.
Foster received a B.S. in criminal justice and corrections from East Carolina University in 1983. He then spent time as an adult probation parole officer for the State of North Carolina (1983 to 1987) before completing a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law (1990) and an LL.M. in judicial process from Nottingham Trent University (2020).
His memberships include the ECU Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the Pitt County Bar Association, the Pitt County Criminal Defense Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court (charter member).
He has been involved with the East Carolina University Alumni Association Board of Directors, ECU Athletics (legal counsel), the Pitt County Multiple Sclerosis Walk, the Pitt County Pirate Club, the Pitt County Interagency Coordinating Council, the Pitt County Multicultural Council, the Teen Valley Ranch Board of Directors, the Pitt County Courthouse Historic Documents Committee (chairman), and the Ronald McDonald Celebrity Golf Classic (board member and legal counsel).
Foster was born in Birmingham, Alabama, moving with his family to North Carolina in the sixth grade. He and his wife, Jean, have two grown children.
