The Hon. Jared G. Kallunki is a judge for the 5th Judicial District Court in New Mexico. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in 2020, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Kea Whetzal Riggs.
The 5th Judicial District encompasses Lea County, Chaves County, and Eddy County.
Prior to his appointment, Kallunki was a trial attorney for the Law Office of the Public Defender of New Mexico, a position to which he was named in 2017. Before that, he spent time as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, handling family law, contracts, and civil litigation matters in Roswell (2012 to 2017).
Kallunki earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Alabama. He then completed a J.D. at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego in 2007. He was admitted to the State Bar of New Mexico in 2008.
After graduating from law school, Kallunki began his legal career as a staff attorney for New Mexico Legal Aid. He worked in that capacity until 2012, rising through the ranks to become its managing attorney.
His memberships have included the Chaves County Bar Association.
Born in Indiana, Kallunki was raised in Provo, Utah. He was a resident of Roswell, New Mexico, at the time of his appointment. Kallunki and his wife, Tiesha, have three children.
He is registered as a Democrat.
