The Hon. James T. Kitchens is a judge for the 16th Circuit Court District of Mississippi. He was elected to the bench in 2002.
The 16th Circuit District encompasses Clay, Oktibbeha, Lowndes, and Noxubee Counties.
Prior to his election, Kitchens was an assistant district attorney with the Office of the District Attorney for the 16th Circuit, a position to which he was named in 1996.
Kitchens earned a B.B.A. in economics from Mississippi State University in 1989. He then completed a J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law in 1993.
After graduating from law school, Kitchens entered into private practice, working as an associate at McDavid, Noblin & West in Jackson. He remained with the firm until 1994, at which time he became a law clerk to Chief Justice Dan M. Lee of the Mississippi Supreme Court.
