The Hon. James T. Browning is a judge for the Levy County Court in the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist in 2009.
In addition to handling county court matters, Browning has served as administrative judge of the Regional County Court, and he has presided over juvenile delinquency, shelter hearings, and mental health court cases. He also served as an acting circuit judge in Levy County and as a member of the Levy County Canvassing Board.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Browning worked as an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit since 1989. During his tenure there, he was division chief of both the Gilchrist and Levy County offices and chief of Crimes Against Women & Families and Special Prosecutions.
He received an A.A. from Miami Dade Community College (1980) and a B.A. from the University of Florida (1983). Browning went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1986. He was admitted to practice in Florida in 1988.
