The Hon. James S. Chapman is a judge for the Ellis County Court at Law No. 1 in Texas. He was initially elected to the bench in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
Prior to his election, Chapman worked as a partner at Chapman & Chapman, where he handled probate, real estate, business, and municipal matters since 1991.
Chapman earned a B.B.A. from Southern Methodist University. He then completed a J.D. at Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law (1991) and an M.B.A. from Yale University School of Management (2001).
His memberships have included the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Waxahachie, the MKT Depot Restoration Committee, the Waxahachie Community Development Corporation, the Waxahachie Symphony Association, and Historic Waxahachie, Inc.
When not presiding over the bench, Chapman enjoys traveling, hiking, running, reading, and collecting books.
