The Hon. James R. McGarry is a judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. He was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly in 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David Williams.
The 21st Judicial Circuit includes the City of Martinsville and Henry and Patrick Counties.
McGarry began his judicial career as a judge for the 21st Judicial District Court in 2019. Before that, he was a partner at Young, Haskins, Mann, Gregory & Wall, P.C. in Martinsville.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. McGarry then completed a J.D. at Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1993.
He was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
