The Hon. James L. LaMothe is an associate justice of the Malden District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mitt Romney in 2006.
Over the course of his judicial career, LaMothe has held assignments as an associate justice of the Peabody District Court.
LaMothe earned a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University. He then completed a J.D. at Boston College Law School.
After graduating from law school, LaMothe entered into private practice, working as an associate in the Law Office of Richard F. Kerr (1984 to 1986) and Nathanson & Goldberg (1986 to 1992). He was then selected to serve as an administrative judge for the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a senior judge in 2005.
LaMothe was born in Oneida, New York.
