Judge James J. Goodman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. James J. Goodman is a judge for the 14th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2017, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Hentz McClellan.

The 14th Judicial Circuit includes Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties. Goodman has held assignments in Bay County and Jackson County, presiding over the Family Division and the Civil Division.

Prior to his appointment, Goodman managed his own private practice. In addition to his law practice, he served as an attorney for the Holmes County Board of Commissioners, the Washington County Board of Commissioners, the Holmes County School Board, the Washington County School Board, the Town of Esto, and the Town of Wausau.

Before entering into solo practice, Goodman was an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit. He also worked as an associate at Balch & Bingham, LLP and was a personnel and assistant general manager for the Denver Broncos (2006 to 2009).

He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Florida in 2000. Goodman then completed a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law in 2003.
