The Hon. J. Thomas Davis is a senior resident judge for the Rutherford County Superior Court in the 29A Judicial District of the 5th Division in North Carolina. He was elected to the bench in 2012.
The 29A Judicial District includes Rutherford and McDowell Counties.
Davis initially served as a superior court judge for the 29A Judicial District of the 8th Division of the Superior Court prior to its combining with the 5th Division when the North Carolina General Assembly revised the districts in 2018.
Prior to his election, he presided as a judge for the 29A Judicial District Court since 2005. Before that, he worked in private practice (1984 to 2005) and was a certified public accountant. Davis also worked for nineteen years as the town attorney for the Town of Forest City.
Davis received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Gardner-Webb College in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1984.
Davis has served on the Rutherford Hospital Board of Trustees and the Rutherford County Board of Elections. He was also a public administrator for the Rutherford County Court System and a member of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission.
He is a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Forest City.
Davis is registered as a Republican.
