The Hon. J. Kevin Kimball is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was elected to the bench in 2017.
The 18th Judicial District includes the Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton Rouge Parishes.
Kimball received a bachelor’s degree in pre-law from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1989. He began his legal career in private practice alongside his late father, William L. Kimball, Sr., where he remained for twelve years. His caseload included successions and probate, family law, criminal matters, property-land-mineral cases, personal injury, bank closings, and transactional work.
While at the firm, Kimball accepted a position as assistant indigent defender for the 18th Judicial District in 1991. He began with misdemeanors and DWIs before transitioning into handling felony cases in Iberville and Pointe Coupee Parishes. In 2007, Kimball volunteered to take over the role of juvenile public defender for the 18th Judicial District, a role that lasted ten years. During that time, he served as a member of the Louisiana Juvenile Defender Advisory Council.
Kimball was born and raised in Maringouin, Louisiana, and attended the Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee. He and his wife, Sherry, have three children. Kimball is a longtime member of Holy Family Parish, where he served as a member of the Church Advisory Council and the Building Committee. He has also been involved with the Knights of Columbus and the Maringouin Lions Club.
