Biography

The Hon. Heidi K. Whilden is a judge for the Monterey County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2014. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kay T. Kingsley (Ret.).


She is a registered Democrat.


Judge Whilden received her B.S. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She went on to earn her J.D. from Santa Barbara College of Law.


Whilden served as a clerk for the Hon. James M. Ideman with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California from 1991 to 1996. She then joined the law firm of Bohnen, Rosenthal, and Dusenbury, where she practiced as an associate for three years. Then, in 2001, Whilden entered into solo practice for five years, before joining the Monterey County Superior Court in 2006.


She served as a judicial research attorney for Monterey County from 2006 to 2011 and as a family law judge pro tem from 2008 to 2011. Since 2011, Whilden had served as a court commissioner for the Monterey County Superior Court, a position she would hold until her elevation to the bench three years later.


During her tenure on the Superior Court, Judge Whilden has served as the Supervising Judge of the Juvenile Division and has presided in the Juvenile Dependency and Truancy Departments.


She has served as a volunteer for the Monterey County High School Mock Trial Competitions, where she served as the team attorney coach, a scorer, and also as a presiding judge. She has been a member of the Monterey County Barristers Association.
