The Hon. Gerald I. Fisher (Ret.) is a senior associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Fisher was nominated to the bench by former President Bill Clinton on June 26, 2000, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. Richard A. Levie. His nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 26, 2000. Fisher assumed senior status on August 31, 2022.
Fisher held assignments in the Criminal, Civil, and Probate & Tax Divisions of the Superior Court.
Prior to his appointment, Fisher was a partner at Fisher, Morin & Kagan-Kans, a law firm he established in 1984. His practice specialized in complex criminal and civil litigation.
Fisher earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in 1972. He spent the next few years coaching basketball in Israel and working for the County of Arlington before completing a J.D. at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in 1977. As a law student, he interned for the Center for National Policy Review.
After graduating from law school, Fisher began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Walter Yeagley of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He served in that capacity until 1979, at which time he became the supervising attorney for the Criminal Division of the Law Students in Court Program for the Court of Appeals.
Fisher was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia.
