Biography

The Hon. Gary D. Young is a judge for the 62nd District Court of Texas. Young was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott on June 23, 2025.


The 62nd District Court serves Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, and Lamar counties.


Prior to his appointment, Young was the district attorney for the Lamar County District Attorney’s Office. Before that, he spent time as an assistant district attorney in Harris and Collin counties.


He received a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. Young then completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law in 1992. He was admitted to practice in Texas (1992).


His memberships have included the State Bar of Texas and the Texas District Court Attorneys Association. Young has also served as capital campaign chair of the Boys and Girls Club of Red River Valley and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Paris, the Paris Education Foundation, Downton Food Pantry, and Lamar County Coalition of Business and Industry.


He is registered as a Republican.
