The Hon. Francis J. Murray, Jr. (Ret.) served as an associate justice for the Rhode Island Family Court. Murray was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bruce Sundlun in 1994. He retired on December 31, 2014.
Prior to his appointment, Murray served as assistant legal counsel to J. Joseph Garrahy, the Governor of Rhode Island.
Murray earned a bachelor’s degree from the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence (1971) and a master’s degree from Marquette University (1973). He then completed a J.D. at the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce School of Law in 1976.
He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts (1977), Rhode Island (1977), and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island (1977).
