The Hon. Eugene P. Daugherity is a judge for the Illinois Third District Appellate Court. He was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court on December 8, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Robert E. Carter to the Illinois Supreme Court.
Prior to his appointment, Daugherity was a circuit judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois., a position to which he was named on March 6, 2001. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Louis J. Perona.
Daugherity earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. He then completed a J.D. at DePaul University College of Law.
After graduating from law school, Daugherity spent time as the managing partner of Myers, Daugherity, Berry, O'Connor & Kusma in Ottawa. He joined the law firm in 1982, handling approximately 30 jury trials as lead counsel.
His memberships have included the Illinois Courts Commission. He also sat on the Illinois Supreme Court Judicial Conference Committee on Complex Litigation, and he served as a topic editor for the Benchbook on Mortgage Foreclosure.
He and his wife, Caroline, have two children.
