The Hon. Eugene M. Guarino is a judge for the New York County Criminal Court in the First Judicial District of New York. He was designated to the seat in 2016 by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. Earlier that year, Judge Guarino was initially appointed to serve as an interim judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York by Mayor Bill de Blasio and was then promptly assigned to the Criminal Court. Since that time, he was reappointed to the Civil Court by Mayor de Blasio in 2017 and has continued to preside on the Criminal Court bench.
Judge Guarino received his B.A. from Fordham University in 1996. He went on to earn his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1999.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Guarino had worked for the New York State Unified Court System since 2013. During that time, he served as a principal law clerk for both the Queens County Supreme Court and the Queens County Criminal Court.
Before joining the courts, Guarino practiced as a sole practitioner at his own law firm from 2006 to 2013. He also served as an assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office for six years beginning in 2000.
His memberships have included the Queens County Bar Association, the Assistant District Attorney’s Association of Queens County, and the Columbian Lawyers Association.
