Biography

The Hon. Eric D. Kelderman is a judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of South Dakota. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Kristi Noem on April 17, 2024.


The 7th Judicial Circuit encompasses Custer, Fall River, Pennington, and Oglala Lakota counties.


Prior to his appointment, Kelderman was an assistant United States attorney for the District of South Dakota. During his tenure there, he held assignments in the Appellate Division and the Criminal Division, sitting as the Ethics and Responsibility Officer for the office in Rapid City.


Kelderman earned a bachelor’s degree from Sioux Falls College (1994) and a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota (1998). He then completed a J.D. at Creighton University School of Law in 2001.


After graduating from law school, Kelderman began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska and the District of South Dakota.


He and his wife, Renae, have two children.
