Biography

The Hon. Eric A. Commer is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was elected to the bench in 2008 and re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

The 18th Judicial District encompasses Sedgwick County.

Commer earned a bachelor’s degree from Sterling College in 1977. He then completed a J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 1980. He is licensed to practice in Kansas (1980) and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas (1980).

After graduating from law school, Commer entered into private practice in Wichita. He specialized in family law matters, supplementing his practice with criminal, juvenile, adoption, civil, and traffic cases.

His memberships have included the Kansas Bar Association and the Christian Legal Society. He has been involved with the Ethics Committee of the Wichita Bar Association, he has served on the Access to Justice Committee for the Kansas Supreme Court, and he has led the Kansas Supreme Court’s Language Access Committee on Interpreters.

Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Commer attended Wichita High School South.

He is registered as a Republican.
