Appointed By: Gov. John W. Hickenlooper, Jr.
Hon. Elizabeth Brodsky is a judge for the Boulder County Court in Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hickenlooper in 2015, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Norma A. Sierra to the 20th Judicial District Court.
During her judicial tenure, Brodsky has presided over civil, criminal, misdemeanor, small claims, and traffic matters. Prior to her appointment, she handled domestic relations matters as a magistrate for the 20th Judicial District Court since 2011.
Before that, Brodsky managed her own private practice (2005 to 2011), where she worked with respondent parents and children in dependency and neglect matters. She also spent more than ten years representing children suffering from abuse and neglect as a volunteer for CASA and later worked as a Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children.
Prior to establishing her practice, Brodsky was the managing attorney for Boulder County Legal Services (2002 to 2005). She began as a staff attorney in the Family and Children’s Unit at Colorado Legal Services in 1998.
She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1994. Brodsky went on to complete a J.D. at Colorado Law in 1997.
She served on the steering committee for the development and implementation of the Family Integrated Treatment Court in the 20th Judicial District and co-chaired the Availability of Legal Services Committee. Brodsky also served on the Boulder Access to Justice Committee and is credited with assisting in the development and implementation of a quarterly free legal clinic in Boulder for members of the Nederland community.
In addition, she has been involved with her local food pantry, as well as the Read to Children Program at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility. Brodsky also mentors law students, has served as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member at Colorado Law, and developed an annual mock trial program for fourth-grade students at Nederland Elementary.
Brodsky received the John Marshall Award for Public Service from the Boulder County Bar Association for her work in helping at-risk members of Boulder County.
