The Hon. Douglas V. Mewhinney (Ret.) was a judge for the Calaveras County Superior Court in California. Mewhinney joined the Calaveras County Justice Court in 1985 and was elevated to the Calaveras County Superior Court in 1998. He retired on March 1, 2012.
Prior to his judicial role, he was the district attorney for the Office of the Calaveras County District Attorney, a position to which he was named in 1980. Before that, Mewhinney spent three years as a deputy district attorney in Calaveras County (1977 to 1980).
He received a bachelor’s degree from Raymond College. Mewhinney then completed a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
Raised near Wilseyville, he attended Calaveras High School in San Andreas. He and his wife, Cathi, raised three children.
