Hon. Dib Waldrip is the presiding judge of the Third Administrative Judicial Region of Texas. He was appointed to the seat by Governor Greg Abbott in 2022.
Prior to his appointment, Waldrip presided as a judge for the 433rd District Court in Comal County since 2007.
Before joining the bench, he spent almost ten years as the District Attorney for Comal County. Waldrip is board certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Waldrip also served as an assistant commander and attorney with the 81st Judicial District Narcotics Task Force and as staff counsel for the Eighth Court of Appeals.
He received a B.S. in agricultural journalism from Texas A&M University. Waldrip went on to complete a J.D. at St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1990.
He also received advanced law enforcement training at the F.B.I. National Law Enforcement Academy.
Waldrip was the founding president of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County and a past president of the Texas Association of District Judges and the Texas Association of Specialty Courts. He also served as co-founder of the Comal County Client Choice Indigent Defense Program and the Comal County Sexual Assault Response Team.
His other memberships include the State Bar of Texas, the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, the Texas Judicial Needs Assessment Council, the Comal County Juvenile Probation Board, the Texas State Bar College (Fellow), and the National Board of Trial Advocates (judicial fellow). In addition, Waldrip sat on the Governor’s Office Criminal Justice Division Specialty Court Grant Review Committee and the Texas Violent Gangs Task Force.
He is registered as a Republican.
