Biography

The Hon. Dean S. Worcester (Ret.) served as a judge for the 20th Judicial District Court of Virginia. Worcester was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly on March 1, 2002, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James D. Forsyth. He retired on March 1, 2020.


The 20th Judicial District encompasses Fauquier, Loudoun, and Rappahannock Counties.


Prior to his election, Worcester was a partner at Worcester, Mims & Atwell, a law firm based in Leesburg. During his tenure there, he handled everything from criminal defense to real estate and domestic relations cases.


Worcester earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 1974. He then completed a J.D. at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, in 1978. He is licensed to practice in Virginia (1978), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (1979), and the United States Supreme Court (1984).


After graduating from law school, Worcester entered into private practice in Leesburg. He was later hired as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, where he served in the early 1980s.


A resident of Leesburg, Virginia, Worcester and his wife, Tammy Paige Jenkins, have one daughter.
