Judge David S. Richmond: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. David S. Richmond (Ret.) served as a judge on the Amador County Superior Court in California.


Prior to his elevation, Richmond was a judge on the Amador County Municipal Court, a position to which he was named by Governor Pete Wilson in 1998. Before that, he spent time as the chief assistant district attorney for the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office (1995 to 1998) and a deputy district attorney for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office (1991 to 1995).


Richmond earned a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1975.


After graduating from law school, Richmond began his legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Amador County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1982, at which time he became the district attorney for Amador County.


Richmond was a resident of Ione, California, at the time of his appointment. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he could be found at cowboy poetry gatherings. Richmond has written poetry for several years, specializing in the cowboy variety after his introduction to the genre by Amador County Sheriff Ken Blake.
