Biography

The Hon. David M. Barredo is a judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia.


The 16th Judicial Circuit includes the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Madison, and Orange.


Barredo began his judicial career as a judge for the 16th Judicial District Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in 2014.


Prior to his election to the bench, he spent time as a prosecutor in Culpeper County and Loudoun County and was in private practice in Charlottesville. During his time as a prosecutor, Barredo served as the first gang prosecutor in Culpeper in 2007 and was later promoted to deputy prosecutor there in 2013. In Loudoun County, he is credited with helping to re-establish the county’s alcohol interdiction program, after a twenty-year gap in service.


Barredo began his legal career as a clerk for a trial judge in West Virginia.


Barredo received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He then completed a J.D. at Regent University School of Law.


Barredo was born in the Philippines and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, with his family at the age of thirteen. His parents were missionaries in Southeast Asia at the time. Barredo served in the United States Army Reserve as an administrative specialist with the 3rd Battalion/317th Regiment of the 4th Brigade, 80th Division (1994 to 2002).


He is a married father of two children.
