The Hon. David B. Carson is a judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. He was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly on July 1, 2013.
The 23rd Judicial Circuit includes the Cities of Roanoke and Salem and Roanoke County.
Prior to his election, Carson was chairman of the Roanoke School Board since 2006. He also worked as a private practice attorney at Johnson, Ayers & Matthews. Before joining the firm, Carson served as a law clerk to the Hon. Jack Kiser with the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. Carson then completed a J.D. at Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1988.
In addition to his practice, he taught Judicial Externships and Trial Advocacy as an adjunct professor of law at Washington and Lee University School of Law.
