Hon. David A. Gilbert is a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Owens on July 1, 2001.
The 4th Judicial District includes El Paso and Teller Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Gilbert worked as a deputy district attorney and later as a chief trial deputy district attorney with the District Attorney’s Office for the 4th Judicial District in El Paso County since 1986. As such, he managed the criminal division and the homicide prosecution unit.
Before his tenure as a prosecutor, Gilbert spent two years as a private practice attorney, and his areas of practice included real estate, personal injury, corporate law, and employment law.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Queens College. Gilbert went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1983. He was admitted to practice in Colorado (1984) and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado (1984).
Gilbert assisted with the Teen Court and has served as a judge for mock trial competitions.
He was born and raised in New York City.
