Hon. Daniel W. O’Malley is first justice of the Stoughton District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker in 2016.
O’Malley was initially appointed to preside as a circuit justice of the District Court. He first joined the judiciary after receiving an appointment to serve as an associate justice of the District Court from former Governor Paul Cellucci in 1998 and remained on the bench until 2004. During that time, O’Malley presided as first justice of the Fall River District Court for seven months and also presided over mental health hearings at Bridgewater State Hospital and Taunton State Hospital.
He received a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1980. O’Malley then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University School of Law in 1985.
After his first stint on the District Court, he opened a solo practice in 2004, where he remained until returning to the bench in 2016.
Prior to beginning his judicial career, O’Malley had worked as a private practice attorney since 1986.
His memberships included the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Norfolk County Bar Association, the Quincy Bar Association, the Barnstable County Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
O’Malley was born in Boston, Massachusetts. At the time of his appointment, he resided in Milton.
