Judge Daniel R. Eckstrom: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Daniel R. Eckstrom is a judge for the Lexington County Probate Court in South Carolina. He was elected to the bench in 1990.


Prior to his election, Eckstrom was special counsel to Nexsen Pruet Jacobs & Pollard.


Eckstrom earned a bachelor’s degree in government and international studies from the University of South Carolina. He then completed a J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982. He is licensed to practice in Georgia (1982) and South Carolina (1983).


After graduating from law school, Eckstrom was commissioned in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Navy, where he served on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. He also spent time as a military prosecutor and an anti-terrorism officer for an overseas military installation with the United States Navy Reserve.


His memberships have included the Lexington County Board of Education. He has also been involved with the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates and the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges. He has taught judicial ethics for the South Carolina Court Administration, and he has served on the editorial team of “Prosecuting National Security Cases: A Handbook for Trial Counsel” (Rev. Ed. 1995).
