The Hon. Daniel P. Dwyer (Ret.) served as a judge for the Washington County Circuit Court in Maryland. Dwyer was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley on March 12, 2009. He retired in 2021.
Prior to his appointment, Dwyer was a domestic relations master for the Washington County Circuit Court, a position to which he was named in 1996. Before that, he was a partner at Rutledge & Dwyer (1994 to 1996).
Dwyer earned a bachelor’s degree in theater from Frostburg State College in 1977. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1984.
After graduating from law school, Dwyer entered into private practice, working as an associate at the Law Office of Edward N. Button. He served in that capacity until 1987, at which time he became an assistant state’s attorney for the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Washington County Bar Association, the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association, the Maryland Child Support Enforcement Association, and the Washington County Foster Parents Association. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the Crime Watch League of Washington County and the Washington County Mental Health Center.
He is a recipient of the Community Partnership Award from the Washington County Department of Social Services (2007).
Dwyer was born in Hagerstown, Maryland.
