The Hon. Daniel Lewis is a Justice of the Queens County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the Eleventh Judicial District of New York. He was first elected to the Supreme Court bench in 1996 and re-elected in 2010. Justice Lewis was certificated to the post in 2017.
His judicial career began in 1992 when he was appointed to serve as a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Queens County by former Mayor David Dinkins.
He is a registered Democrat.
Justice Lewis received his B.A. from Brown University in 1967. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1970.
After graduating from law school, Lewis began his legal career with the New York County District Attorney’s Office, where he worked as an assistant district attorney for five years.
In 1975, he joined the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services as an associate general counsel and civil rights compliance officer, serving in those capacities until 1977. At that time, Lewis joined the New York State Unified Court System, where he worked as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Kenneth N. Browne with the Queens County Supreme Court for fourteen years. Lewis held the position until his appointment to the Criminal Court bench.
