Judge Dana Margaret Hathaway - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Dana Margaret Hathaway is a judge for the Third Circuit Court in Michigan. She was elected to the bench in 2012 and re-elected in 2018.

Prior to her election, Hathaway was an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Before that, she spent time as an attorney in private practice.

Hathaway earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston in 2000. She spent the next few years working as a forensic chemist in the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office before completing a J.D. at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2005.

She is admitted to practice in Michigan (2005), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (2005), Illinois (2006), and the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan (2006).

Hathaway has extensive ties to the Michigan Court System. Her mother, the Hon. Diane M. Hathaway, has served as a justice for the Michigan Supreme Court, while her father, the Hon. Richard Hathaway, has served as a judge for the Third Judicial Circuit Court. Hathaway currently resides in Wayne County with her husband, the Hon. Nicholas J. Hathaway, and their two children.
