The Hon. Clinton Smith, Jr. is a judge for the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court in Louisiana. He was elected to the bench in 2020.
Smith received a bachelor’s degree in history from Morehouse College in 1982. He then completed a J.D. at Tulane Law School in 1987. As a law student, Smith was president of the Public Interest Law Foundation.
He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Revius Ortique, Jr., with the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Smith later entered private practice. During that time, he was a partner at Bryan & Jupiter, Roby & Smith and Ungarino & Eckert before establishing his own law firm in 2004.
In addition to his private practice, Smith presided as a judge pro tempore for the Orleans Parish Traffic Court and as an ad hoc judge for the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court.
He has served as a board member of the Legacy Donor Foundation, the Louisiana Affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation, the Faith & Marriage Advisory Board, Wildwoods Community, the Audubon Commission, and the New Orleans Soccer Association.
His memberships include the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the Sigma Pi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. (Boule’).
Smith has volunteered his free time to the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of America and is a mentor for the Archdiocese Isaiah 43 Program, the Omega Psi Phi Program, and the Silverback Society.
He and his wife, Sheryl, a physician, have three grown children. When not presiding over legal matters, Smith enjoys watching football and soccer. He is also an avid New Orleans Saints fan.
Smith is registered as a Democrat.
