The Hon. Christopher P. Staring is a judge for the Arizona Court of Appeals (Division Two). He was appointed to the bench by Governor Doug Ducey on October 20, 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Virginia C. Kelly.
Prior to his appointment, Staring was a judge for the Pima County Superior Court, a position to which he was appointed by former Governor Jan Brewer in 2010. Over the course of his judicial career, Staring presided over civil, juvenile, and probate cases. He also sat as the Presiding Judge of the Pima County Probate Bench.
Staring earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and public service from the University of California, Davis in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 1986.
After graduating from law school, Staring entered into private practice, handling corporate and commercial litigation matters at Fennemore Craig. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a partner.
His memberships have included the Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review, the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct, the Arizona Supreme Court Committee on Mental Health and the Justice System, and the Arizona Supreme Court Committee on Juvenile Courts.
Staring was born and raised in Palo Alto, California. He currently resides in Tucson, Arizona.
