Judge Christon C. Skinner - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Christon C. Skinner is a judge for the Island County Superior Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alan R. Hancock (Ret.).

While on the bench, Skinner has presided on the Island County Superior Court’s Drug Court.

Prior to his election, he worked as a private practice attorney in Oak Harbor for forty-one years. During that time, his practice emphasized trial practice and litigation in both civil and criminal cases.

Skinner received a B.A. in political science and economics from Pacific Lutheran University in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at Willamette University College of Law in 1979.

After law school, he began his legal career in the Oak Harbor law firm of Zylstra, Beeksma & Waller, later becoming a partner in Zylstra, Beeksma, Waller & Skinner in 1985. Then, in 1996, Skinner opened a solo practice in Oak Harbor and eventually maintained a second office in Friday Harbor (2008 to 2016). His general law practice focused on civil litigation, business law, estate planning and estate administration, and family law. He continued in his solo practice until joining the Superior Court bench.

Skinner sat on the Board of Trustees of Skagit Valley College beginning in 2012. In addition, his civic involvement included serving as a past president of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club and the Oak Harbor Area Council of the U.S. Navy League.
