The Hon. Chester T. Harhut (Ret.) is a senior judge for the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. Harhut was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bob Casey in 1987. He retired on December 31, 2012.
Over the course of his judicial career, Harhut sat as the Administrative Judge for the Family Court as well as President Judge of the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas.
Harhut earned a bachelor’s degree from Bethel College in 1969. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (1972) and a master’s degree in judicial studies from the University of Nevada (1995).
His memberships have included the American Judges Association, the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges (president).
He is registered as a Democrat.
