Biography

The Hon. Chelsey M. Vascura is a magistrate for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She was appointed to the bench by the judges of the Southern District of Ohio on July 1, 2017.


Prior to her appointment, Vascura was a law clerk to federal judges of the Southern District of Ohio. She began as a law clerk to the Hon. George C. Smith in 2006 and to the Hon. Elizabeth Preston Deavers in 2010. Before that, Vascura managed a civil litigation practice at Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease, where she began her legal career.


She received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bethany College. Vascura then completed a J.D. at The Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law, in 2003. While a law student, she sat as a managing editor of the Ohio State Law Journal and graduated Order of the Coif.


Vascura has taught Pretrial Litigation, Depositions and Discovery, and Trial Advocacy as an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She has also served as a board member of the Federal Bar Association and the Ohio Lawyer’s Assistance Program and is also a member of the Southern District of Ohio Local Rules Committee.


She was born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Beverly, Ohio.
