The Hon. Charlene Edwards Honeywell is a district judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She was nominated by former President Barack Obama on June 25, 2009, to fill the seat vacated by the Hon. Susan C. Bucklew. Her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 9, 2009, and she received her judicial commission on November 12th of that same year.
Prior to her nomination, she was a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Hillsborough County since her appointment by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2001. Honeywell began her judicial career as a judge for the Hillsborough County Court in 1994, though she lost her bid for re-election four months later. She worked in private practice until rejoining the bench in 2001.
Honeywell also served as a former assistant city attorney in Tampa (1987 to 1994) and was an assistant public defender in Hillsborough (1985 to 1987) and Leon (1982 to 1985) Counties.
She received a B.A. in political science from Howard University in 1979. Honeywell then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1981.
She was born in Deerfield Beach, Florida, graduating from Pompano Beach High School in 1975. Crenshaw attended middle school during the time of integration, which later shaped her views on the law. She and her husband, a Tampa police officer, have two children.
