The Hon. Cely Anne Brigman is a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Family Court of South Carolina. She was elected to the bench by the South Carolina General Assembly in 2015, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Roger Henderson.
The 4th Judicial Circuit Chesterfield, Marlboro, Darlington, and Dillon County.
Prior to her election, Brigman was a magistrate for the Darlington County Magistrate Court, a position to which she was named in 2004. Before that, she handled family law matters as an attorney at the Jebaily Law Firm in Florence.
Brigman earned a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Columbia College in 1983. She then completed a J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1985. She is licensed to practice in South Carolina, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Supreme Court.
After graduating from law school, Brigman entered into private practice, working as an attorney at Green, Lockemy & Bailey in Dillon. She eventually relocated her practice to Darlington, where she worked alongside her father.
Her memberships have included the Family Law Council for the South Carolina Bar Association. She has also been involved with the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.
Raised in Darlington, South Carolina, Brigman is the daughter of the late Mary Cely Baker, the first woman to serve on the Darlington City Council and the Darlington County Council. She graduated from St. John’s High School. Brigman and her husband, Greg, have two daughters. The family attends St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Darlington.
