The Hon. Brianna Fuller Mircheff is a magistrate for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She was appointed to the bench on April 18, 2023, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Paul L. Abrams.
Mircheff received a bachelor’s degree from Messiah College in 2001. She then completed a J.D. at Loyola Law School in 2005.
After graduating from law school, Mircheff began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Harry Pregerson with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Then, in 2006, she became a deputy federal public defender in the Trial Unit of the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California. Mircheff later transitioned into the Appeal Unit in 2010 before becoming the office’s immigration specialist the following year. In 2018, she began serving as the Chief of Writs and Appeals, where she was tasked with overseeing the office’s post-sentencing litigation as well as chairing the Ethics Committee and managing the Criminal Justice Act Appellate Panel. Mircheff also maintained her own caseload, consisting of direct appeals, habeas petitions, and other post-conviction matters, as well as an active amicus practice. She continued her work there until her call to the federal bench.
Her memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Federal Defenders. Mircheff was also a mentor for The Appellate Project, focusing on increasing diversity in the appellate field.
