The Hon. Barry A. Schwartz is a justice for the Queens County Supreme Court (Criminal Term) in the Eleventh Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 2014 and certificated in 2017.
Schwartz earned a B.A. from The Pennsylvania State University in 1967. He then completed a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law in 1972.
Towards the beginning of his legal career, Schwartz served as chief of the Appeals Bureau of the Office of the District Attorney in Queens County from 1976 to 1981. At that time, he entered into private practice, spending the next ten years as an attorney at Schwartz and DiBlasi.
Schwartz then returned to the Office of the District Attorney in Queens County. He served as its chief assistant district attorney from 1991 to 1997. Then, in 1999, he became the principal law clerk to the Hon. Timothy J. Flaherty of the Queens County Supreme Court.
Just prior to his election to the Queens County Supreme Court, Schwartz served as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County, a position to which he was elected in 2011.
Schwartz has been a member of the Queens County Bar Association.
He is registered as a Democrat.
